Summary

The MetroHealth System is a nationally ranked healthcare organization and public safety net hospital serving Cleveland and Cuyahoga County along the shores of Lake Erie, with a 180-year history of serving the poor and most vulnerable. In accompaniment with a self-funded $1 billion redevelopment of its main campus on the Near West Side of Cleveland, MetroHealth is also committed to creating economic opportunity, wellness, and resilient and sustainable development for the people who live and work in the surrounding neighborhoods, embracing the EcoDistricts Protocol to achieve these goals, and is committed to launching an EcoDistrict, currently registered as the MetroHealth Community District, in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood where it is anchored. This session highlighted how MetroHealth envisions EcoDistricts as a tool for leveraging the physical transformation of its campus and its recognized role of a health anchor institution to strengthen collaboration with Clark-Fulton community leaders in creating a healthy neighborhood. Presenters shared green infrastructure plans and a few district-building strategies.
