Ten Year Growth and Modernization of a 70-year Old Toronto Community DE System

Summary

Case study of a community DE system grows with 25-year Regent Park Revitalization since 2009, along with building constructions, the system phases out a 70-year old steam plant and phases in a new cooling and hot water heating plant for residential buildings, town houses, arts center, aquatic center, community center, child care and primary school. A campus electric system with CHP is also built to connect to social housing apartment buildings. The new plant sits in the basement of a high rise apartment building. This presentation shows unique challenges and benefit related to the its location, replay the modernization/ expansion process in the past 10 years, and stories of project delivery/ operations to internal and external customers.
