Evaluation of Campus Steam to Hot Water Conversion

02-20-2020 12:40

Summary

PSU's goal was to determine the energy, maintenance, and resulting carbon emission savings from converting the existing steam distribution system to a hot water distribution system. A study was conducted based on the existing campus heating distribution system condition consisting of approximately 18 miles of steam pipe and 16 miles of condensate pipe distributed in a combination of walkable tunnels, shallow tunnels, and direct buried piping. The presentation shows the findings toward the goal.
